How i found out i was pregnant & my pregnancy

How long were you trying to concieve?
How did you find out you were pregnant?
How did you tell your partner/ family/ friends?

My pregnancy:
I had been on the contraceptive injection for many years, after coming off of it we had been trying for eighteen months to conceive.

My periods took over a year to return and they were still very irregular. My last period was on mothers day, I had been to the GP several weeks before becoming pregnant for some routine fertility checks, the results had come back and the prolactin was very high, which could indicate a microscopic brain tumour. My world was turned upside down for 24 hours, My husband and I sat in the car crying. I had the test repeated and the result came back within normal limits thankfully, which meant the reason it was so high could have been related to stress. I returned to the GP to discuss the results and he suggested trying to conceive for another 4 more months, my husband should perform a semen a test, and I should make my lifestyle healthier, i.e. exercise, eat healthily, give up drink and smoking, and to use ovulator predictor kits.  That night after the GP I woke in the night and heard a “merrr” sound almost like a baby crying "mum", it was very strange and my husband looked out of the window and there was a cat in our window miaowing! the next morning I went to light my cigarette on the way to work and Hubs had put a note in the boxd saying “think kids you can do it” I had 2 cigarettes left in my box and thought I will smoke these and then try my hardest to quit. Working in the clinic we had a access to the medical pregnancy tests, and for some bizarre reason i did one in the staff loo, a line appeared, but as the test wasn't in the box i didn't know if this meant positive or not! i called 2 of my work colleagues in to the loo and one was sure it meant positive and the other thought negative! I ran to buy some digital ones and sat anxiously waiting, it appeared you are 2-3 weeks pregnant. i dropped the test on the floor! I left work early that day, i said i was sick, as i could not concentrate at all! I didnt want to tell hubs over the phone, so i met him at the local shopping centre, he was upgrading his phone contract and i had wanted to tell him in a romantic way but as soon as i saw him walking towards me i just blurted it out “im pregnant” he was quite shocked too and went ahead and upgrade his phone! as it started to sink in we decided to immediately tell both of our parents, although one usually waits til 3 months, we couldn't keep it to ourselves.

At work the next day I had an early scan to check my dates. There was no heartbeat. I was distraught. But the sonogpraher informed me it was probably too early to detect and I needed to be at least 6 weeks pregnant. A week later i had another scan, and to hear my baby's heartbeat was overwhelming.

I found out at one of my scans we were having a boy.

My pregnancy was quite uneventful. I must admit i didn't love or loathe pregnancy, working in a clinic where I see pregnant women daily it just felt the norm. My only concerns were the swelling of my hands and feet and chronic heartburn. I was quite active during pregnancy, working hard, and had several holidays to Cornwall, the grand prix in Italy and I went to several concerts.

I was huge towards the end, and from about 6 months i started to count down the weeks left! I was very organized and read lots of pregnancy books and internet forums.

I bought so much stuff. Going pram shopping really made it hit home and was very exciting! As this was the first grandchild on both sides it was inevitable he would be completely spoilt. My mum & sister threw me a fantastic baby shower.

I was due around christmas but the size of me I was convinced i would be early. but christmas came and went, new years came and went. and then on the 2nd january my contractions started...
